Chemical peels can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns and have beautiful results. They are a fantastic red carpet treatment, giving your skin a radiant glow before a big event, but are also great for reducing pigmentation, improving acne or managing skin conditions like rosacea long term. What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a single acid used on its own, or a mix of different acids used in unique combinations to tackle problem areas of skin and/or improve skin health. They work mainly superficially to mid depth to provide a deep exfoliation. This not only improves the texture and tone of the skin but stimulates fibroblast cells to reproduce thereby increasing collagen and elastin production.

How do Chemical Peels work?

A peel works a little like a set of scissors, causing the protein bonds which hold dead skin cells to the skins surface to be snipped apart so that the old skin cells can detach and be wiped away. The term chemical peel ironically doesn’t mean that your skin will peel - many peels do not cause the skin to visibly shed but provide an invisible exfoliation. In either case the results are equally powerful.

How Chemical Peels Helped Cure Caroline’s Acne:

Caroline suffered with acne for over 15 years, and came to The Secret Garden Skin Clinic just before getting married. We’ve successfully cured her acne, got rid of the post acne scarring and and revived her skin so that she’s wedding ready!

Am I suitable for Chemical Peels?

When you come for a peel you will be asked about how your skin functions and what your usual skincare routine is so we can ascertain if it’s safe for you. There is usually a chemical peel to suit everyone. Sometimes, a few weeks of pre-peel-skin-prep is required in order to make sure your skin is functioning optimally for your treatment.

Do Chemical Peels hurt?

Some peels feel a little tingly. Some feel hot on the skin, like being in the sunshine on a warm day. There is never any significant pain. After the treatment, you might feel like you have a very mild sunburn but this quickly passes and the skin begins to recover and gain its new glow.

How long do the results from Chemical Peels last?

A chemical peel stimulates the skin cells - forcing them to to reproduce, so the results of treatment in terms of skin health are long term. The superficial glow lasts about 1-2 months, but it can be prolonged with regular treatments and great skincare - something we can talk to you about in the clinic.
