Treating Rosacea

Rosacea is a very common long-term skin condition that results in central redness and visible blood vessels on the face, increased skin sensitivity and intense flushing which may be triggered by particular activities, weather or food. Rosacea is more common in women, and in people with lighter skin tomes - but often the symptoms are worse for men.

In severe cases, the nose may also be affected appearing bulbous and inflamed. Although there is no cure for Rosacea, the treatments we offer relieve the symptoms, control outbreaks and and drastically improve the skin’s appearance so that your skin is smooth, calm, and much more evenly toned.

We offer a number of treatments that control rosacea in clinic, that can be added to bespoke treatment plans depending on your skin type, severity of your Rosacea, and your timeframes.

What does Rosacea look like?

Rosacea appears as a blush like redness across the nose and cheeks, forehead and chin which can be commonly exacerbated leading to wide spread flushing which can be difficult to settle. Small broken blood vessels on the surface of the skin (mainly the cheeks) will be constantly visible and you may even get acne like spots within the redness. Some other symptoms of Rosacea include:

  • Swelling or puffiness around the eyes

  • Discoloration/yellowing of the skin

  • A ‘webbed’ appearance on the cheeks

  • Painful eyelids/crusting around the root of the lashes

What causes Rosacea?

There is no one cause for Rosacea. But, if you do suffer with Rosacea, there are some potential triggers. These include:

  • Stress

  • Heat

  • Sunlight

  • Certain products and foods

  • Alcohol and Caffeine

  • Spicy food

Facts about Rosacea

“Does your diet effect Rosacea?”

Finding the unique solution for you may take time but eating a wide and varied healthy diet helps. The addition of probiotics can also provide many benefits. Some people might find supplements helpful, and these include Turmeric, Ginger, Aloe Vera and Honey.

Drink plenty of water to keep flushing toxins from your skin and keep a diary to identify what your triggers are so that you can avoid them where possible.

“Does Rosacea get worse with age?”

Unfortunately, yes. In almost all cases, Rosacea will gradually get worse if untreated. However there are plenty of treatments and products that can successfully treat the appearance of the skin and control the redness and the severity of Rosacea, which we are happy to offer in clinic.

“Can I take antihistamines to avoid Rosacea flare ups?”

For people whose Rosacea flares up in certain environments, with particular products, or specific foods - you can take antihistamines beforehand, which has been proven to minimise the effects of triggers.

“Are there any new treatments for Rosacea?”

Polynucleotides are a really exciting development when it come to treating rosacea. Polynucleotides, also known as "biostimulators," are an incredible injectable treatment, designed to rejuvenate the skin and reduce inflammation. Derived from natural DNA fractions, they offer a range of benefits including improved skin texture, reduced lines and wrinkles, diminished sun damage, and enhanced overall skin health. Because of this, they are a powerful rejuvenation tool!
