What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser Skin Resurfacing is a fantastic treatment for those suffering with for acne scarring, stretch marks and scars and can treat the appearance of skin damage. The treatment gets visible results by encouraging new, undamaged skin to grow which improves the overall appearance of the damaged area.

The procedure can only be carried out by a licensed professional in clinic, and is only recommended after you’ve consulted a skin care specialist. If you’d like to talk to the Secret Garden Skin Clinic about Laser Skin Resurfacing, we’d be very happy to help.

How does Laser Skin Resurfacing work?

At the Secret Garden Skin Clinic, we perform non-ablative laser skin resurfacing, meaning that we don’t remove the top layer of skin (ablative laser resurfacing removes the epidermis – the top layer of skin). Instead, we head the area of skin within the dermis. The body’s response to this is to stimulate your own natural healing process – causing the fibroblast cells in the dermis to regenerate, but with much better-quality skin cells!

We use the Nordyls Laser with SoftCool, to ensure you’re comfortable. The SoftCool sends a focused stream of cool air onto your skin during and after the treatment. You will be awake during the procedure, but suitable steps will be taken to prevent any pain. If you are having the treatment near your eyes, we will ask you to wear an eye shield.

After your treatment, we will cover the treated area with an ointment to protect the skin while it heals.

Am I suitable for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Before we start any skin treatments, you’ll have a full consultation with one of our specialists. There may be other treatments we can try before Laser Skin Resurfacing, such as Chemical Peels or Dermabrasion – but this depends on the severity of the skin damage, and the results you’re hoping to achieve.

Does Laser Skin Resurfacing hurt?

There may be some pain after you’ve had Laser Skin Resurfacing as it is quite an intense treatment, but there are steps we can take to help you manage the pain, and we’ll be working closely with you in the days following on from your treatment.

How long does Laser Skin Resurfacing last?

The results from your laser resurfacing can be seen immediately, but will continue to improve over the next 3 – 6 months! As soon as the initial redness has subsided, the surface of the skin will appear smoother, the tone will be more even, and it will feel softer to the touch.
